Educational Coaching Difference
The difference is that our approach is we focus on working alongside your child to give him/her the skills that she needs to become successful. As learning coaches we look for what a student can do well and where he is successful. That helps us learn about the child or young adult. Then we can partner with the student to help them apply that strength to her area of weakness. We believe in the saying, “Give a man a fish and you feed and you feed him for a day: teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” (Maimonides).
Experienced Instructors
As learning coaches working alongside your child/young adult, we have intimate knowledge of the common core, teaching methods used in class at elementary and secondary levels, a deep understanding of content area, and a knowledge of how students learn. We also have experience in remote learning and can support learners in this process. All of this works together to help grow independent learners who reach their potential.
Instructional Options
Students have the opportunity to work with an learning coach either in-person or through remote sessions. This flexibility also provides assistance for families with busy schedules who may need to switch back and forth between different types of sessions depending on their need in any given week. In addition, this summer we are working on providing small group learning, too.

Biography- Lauren M. Rand, Owner/ Learning Coach
I have known since a young age that I have wanted to be a teacher: I would label my profession as a “calling”. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Special Education and later earned a Master’s Degree at Central Connecticut State University also in Special Education. Over my 15+ years in the public and private school system I have worked alongside mostly middle and high school students with a wide range of disabilities including behavioral disorders, learning disabilities, attentional issues and those on the autism spectrum. I have helped develop model programs for effective co-teaching models both in the middle and high school level. In addition I established a successful program to integrate students with serious emotional and behavioral issues back into their neighborhood middle school.
After leaving the public school to raise a family, I began to work part-time on an individual basis with students initially in the role of a tutor. This evolved over time as I began to see that providing subject-based assistance did not truly allow for the student to learn how to learn. I decided that I wanted to utilize my expertise as a learning coach. What is a learning coach? That is a great question. A learning coach is a teacher who combines the best practices of coaching and teaching to help guide students on their learning journey. This unique service allows learners with short-term assistance to become confident, independent learners. In fact my skills as an Instructional Coach have earned me a spot on the Coach Foundation, one of the biggest names in the coaching industry.
While running my own learning coaching business I expanded my knowledge base to better include both certification and experience working with young adults that English is not their first language. My passion to provide coaching for those along their learning journey has expanded to include parent and life coaching for students. I believe that understanding our support system and strengths is important for success.
My other passions in my life are my husband and my four children whose ages are 30, 17, 16, and 9. They bring great joy to my life! In my free time, I like to read and exercise.
